Vidya Balan has already been making waves with her amazing performance in The Dirty Picture and from the promos which have appeared so far, it looks like she already has a winner in Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani. Recently Vidya, along with the Kahaani team consisting of director Sujoy Ghosh and music director duo Vishal-Shekhar, launched the music of Kahaani. The event was held at the prestigious Kala Ghoda Festival, in Mumbai recently.
Like all promotions of the film held so far, Vidya Balan made an in-character appearance as a pregnant lady! The event commenced with the Bengali Dhunuchi naach which is performed at Durga Pooja. During the “aarti” (prayer ritual) the people dance with ‘dhunuchi’ (earthen pot filled with charcoal and raisin based incense) on the beats of ‘dhols’ (bengali drums). Kahaani is based in Kolkata and has an important segment filmed during the Durga Pooja. Bringing forth an interesting kahaani (story) to the audience, Vidya urged the audience to share their stories as well. “Main aapse sirf ek hi sawaal karne aayi hoon. Kala Ghoda ki kahani kya hai ya phir aapki kahani kya hai. Kisi ke paas koi dilchasp kahani ho toh yahan aake sunaye,” she said adding ,” I have come here with a very special film –Kahani - where I play a six-month pregnant woman who comes down from London to Kolkata in search of her missing husband. It’s a very edgy mystery and I think we have not had a mystery in Indian cinema for a long time, am I right on that? Even if there has been, there has not been a Kahani! Do you agree?”
Looking lovely in an anarkali dress, Vidya didn’t take much time to mingle with the crowd, “Thank you for that wonderfully warm response. This was very exciting because it was shot in real locations. Galliyon main..aisin jagahon main gayi hoon Kolkata main jahan main pehli kabhi nai gayi.
Vishal Dadlani came on stage and sang Ooo LaLa (from the Dirty Picture) for Vidya and made her groove. Shekhar, who got a bit delayed because of traffic, introduced Vidya by saying, “We now have a female hero. With all the Khans and Kapoors there’s a Vidya Balan now.” Talking about the music of the movie he said, “This film Kahaani is very very special for us. Sujoy Ghosh and Vishal-Shekhar : whenever people talk about this combination, they expect something really mad , something beautiful. And this has happened again.”www.cocoopix.blogspot.com
Vishal added by revealing that Shekhar and Sujoy had a fight during the making and weren’t talking to each other for three months. But all was well and forgotten as both hugged each other although Shekhar could not help but jibe,” Sujoy is a big pain to work with…Now that he’s family you can say such things to him!” to which Sujoy playfully punched him. “You will see Kolkata from very different eyes,” Vidya said,” The eyes of Sujoy Ghosh and the entire team who have portrayed this story with as much honesty as possible. Don’t miss the pregnant Vidya Bagchi searching for her missing husband. Yes I did have men to support me in this. Some of them good looking, some of them very good looking like Sujoy!”

Kahaaani is about Vidya Bagchi (Balan) who arrives in Kolkata from London to find her missing husband. Seven month pregnant and alone in a festive city, she begins a relentless search for her husband.
